This April I got lucky enough to do a ski mission in the Wrangells. A good friend, Rene Welty, called me up and threw out the idea for this trip. I was in! In my mind, there was no way I could pass up an opportunity like this. Rene is a badass climber and pilot that grew up in McCarthy, Alaska in Wrangell-St. Elias National Park. Her dad, Don Welty, is an amazing pilot and he flew us in there. After a 9 hour drive from Girdwood, we arrived at... Read The Rest →
In the beginning of the month, I skied Valdez for a week with Molly Etters. Last season, I had spent over a month in Valdez and had spent 2 weeks of it ski camping. this season, I had a sweet, cozy cabin to stay in at mile 46. It is a friends cabin who was in the Tordrillo Mountains skiing. It was really nice to come back to a warm cabin everyday. Being in the elements definitely wears you down and is pretty hardcore. Here are some photos from my winter in the Chugach Mountains, Alaska. Thanks to all my touring partners for so many incredible days in the backcountry. I love you all! And thank you Alaska, for being so amazing!

While we were there we decided that we were going to take advantage of the amazing weather and ski conditions and go for another mission. We decided to go into an area called the books. We knew it was a long way to get in and the locals haven’t known of anyone to really skin in there. We knew we would need an assist with carrying all of our overnight gear and food. So, we got... When it came time to head to Valdez for April, I called up a girlfriend of mine that I knew would be perfect for this mission, Nicole Mansfield, a badass skier, professional kayaker and all around fun lady. It didn’t take too much convincing and she was in. I left Crested Butte, picked her up in Alta, Utah. We packed my truck full of ski, kayak and camping gear and we were on our way. We stopped outside of Banff, Canada and skied in the Lake Louise area. We had... Read The Rest →
After a kayaking trip to Mexico had fallen through, I had a plane ticket to use. In the winter of 2011-2012 Alaska was having a record year for snowfall. When I caught word of this I knew exactly what I needed to do. So I re-booked the Mexico ticket to spend 10 days in Alaska. It was a bit intimidating coming up to an area that I knew nothing about and no one there. I knew there was a hostel and that I knew someone that could pick me up... Read The Rest →
